La Jolla Half Marathon Training Update


I reached a couple of milestones in the last week:
  1. I ran 9 miles on Saturday. It was long and slow, but I did the mileage as planned
  2. Yesterday, I timed myself for the first time for 4 miles. I was a little surprised to see myself doing sub-11 minute miles. For those of you who are real runners, please stop laughing now.
Years ago, I could do this comfortably at a 8 1/2 minute per mile pace, but I was pretty happy with my progress now. I WAS ACTUALLY PASSING PEOPLE!... sure, they were either 80 pounds overweight, or in their mid 70's, but I was passing them!

Seriously, though, good job. Since I _am_ 80 lbs overweight and (feel like I) am 70 years old, I do all my exercising in the privacy of my living room. Riding the exercise bike thing 5 days/ week since 12/9/07.

Nine miles? Dude, I pulled a calf muscle just reading that sentence. Way to go!
