It Was Not Pretty!
Well folks, it was not easy, but I completed the marathon and I finished about 30 minutes faster than I had expected. Not to say that I was fast. I was actually number 1150 out of 1194 total runners (see stats below). The competitors there were serious runners and I feel lucky to have finished well before the cut-off.

Several people have asked me "How do you feel" and to answer in a word... "Chafed". I hit the wall at 13 miles and thought that I might be in big trouble, but after gobbling down 3 power bars, I caught my second wind. At mile 18, I asked the assistance staff for a new pair of feet. They were unable to accommodate and by mile 20, I was completely numb from the ankle down so it did not really matter anyway. The last 6 miles saw me combining a trot/walk strategy with occasional odd contortions based on the various leg cramps that I was experiencing.

Marceilla was an inspiration and I feel bad, because without me, she could have easily finished the race in under 5 hours. She stayed with me and encouraged me the entire way... even when completely embarrassed by the later running style mentioned above.

San Diego Quadruplets Donations
Thanks to all who pledged a donation amount. We raised nearly $2000 and it could not go to a better family. I will be introducing you all to Caetano shortly via email and providing instructions about where to make your online donation.

Thank You for all of the support and encouragement!

Great story Chet! What an experience to do anything for 6 hours, much less punish your body. Thanks for sharing!!

Wasn't it you who was telling me about being passed by a pregnant lady in a race back in day?

Miss ya, Chelvis.
