I started a new running routine this morning. It has been 7 years since the last time I exercised. It was just one mile, but I had to stop twice and I almost threw up. I felt like I was encapsulated in a giant marshmallow running against the wind. However, I did manage to finish the mile and I will definitely be back at it again tomorrow. In fact, I have entered the La Jolla Half Marathon in late April. This will be my 4th Half Marathon, but I will be starting my training in the worst shape of my life.
I have reached the point in my life where I can no longer rely on the physical foundation that I set in place as a kid. I realize that I reached a turning point... either get back at it, or continue to morph into a blob that my wife will not, eventually, recognize as the man she married.

How coincidental ... I've gained about 20 pounds in the last year and I started exercising yesterday. Today, I hurt. I feel a return of an old ailment called IT Band Tendonitis. Look it up. They say only 5% of people who have it need surgery. I think I'm in the lucky minority. FYI, yesterdays high temp in Indy was 67degrees. 1 week prior the high was 14 with a low of 2.
